Surface pattern designer, illustrator, sewing tutor…the person behind the brand

Hello! My name is Gaynor, and I’m a Cheshire-based surface pattern designer, illustrator and sewing tutor. I have over 35 years’ professional experience in the creative industry and I bring that knowledge and expertise into creating the best products and designs that I can.
At Gaynor Marshall Designs my aim is to create quality products that bring joy and an element of fun to the people who buy them and receive them.

My Vision
By doing things that I love such as designing, illustrating and writing, I hope to inspire the next and future generations to want to help conserve the natural world. To show them how even the smallest effort can have a big impact.
My Mission
I want to show people how we can all play a part in making sure our beautiful flora and fauna survive by creating educational and fun resources centred around conservation of the natural world. Using organic, ethical and eco-friendly materials we can reduce our negative impact on the planet.
The hands on approach to surface pattern design
All of my work begins life by being hand drawn, whether that’s in my sketchbook, on a loose piece of paper or on my iPad. I then use various digital software programmes to finalise my designs and get them ready for market.
I have my own range of hand screen printed textiles, greetings cards and art prints, some of which are currently available from my online shops.
Sharing the knowledge
I’ve been drawing, sewing and crafting my whole life and I believe passionately in sharing my knowledge with others. Illustration, surface pattern design and sewing are my passions and I share these through my blog, teaching workshops and more recently through my books.
My first ebook, a Sewing Hints & Tips Guide is available to purchase via my Payhip Store here. It is full of useful and helpful information and is the perfect gift for anyone who loves to sew.

I’ve also illustrated two ABC picture books for my sons. They are grown up now, but I wanted to create something based on their childhood passions of animals and transport that they could keep and perhaps one day pass on to their own children. I also created two unique fonts based on their childhood handwriting, giving a special twist.
This type of illustration is an area I want to explore further and I would love to illustrate more novelty/board books like this in the future.
I hope you enjoy visiting my website, and you can keep up to date with my newsletter or follow me on Instagram for more updates.
