My screen printing masterclass

April 7, 2019 By Gaynor Marshall

Shortly before Christmas I was asked if I would create a screen printing masterclass.

The lovely people over at Folksy said that Bauer Media were looking for contributors for a new craft publication. Embracing the opportunity to get involved, I threw my hat in the ring and was delighted to be chosen.

Last year I made the decision to grab each and every opportunity that came my way. Not easy when self-confidence has never been my strongest asset, but incredibly freeing when I actually got out of my own way and just did it.

The new magazine, Take a Break Makes, would be full of craft inspired projects with hints and tips throughout including paper craft, jewellery, fashion, garden furniture and home décor.

My brief

My brief was to create a screen printing masterclass for anyone wanting to try the technique in their own homes. I was in my element.

I love the whole screen printing process and I used to hand print my own range of homewares and accessories.

There is a step by step screen printing video guide over on Youtube, which is linked to in the article. I created it a few years ago as a simple introduction to printing at home.

I love teaching and inspiring others to have a go at something new. Like most things, practice makes perfect but if you take your time and enjoy the process everyone can achieve great results.

Behind the scenes

Not all the photographs taken on the day made it into the finished article. I’ve selected a few to give you an idea of what goes on behind the scenes and ask that you please excuse the mess in the studio!

And that’s a wrap!

I must say a huge thank you to Mr M, he was head photographer for the day and did a fantastic job.

Take a Break Makes

The magazine will be on sale for 8 weeks. If this inaugural version proves popular, Bauer are hoping to bring the publication out 4 times a year. At £1.99 it’s incredible value, so if you want to learn some new crafting techniques from industry experts and crafting professionals, make sure you buy a copy.

If you do buy a copy of the magazine, I’d love to know what you think about it and also what you think about my masterclass.

Perhaps there’s a particular topic you’d like to see covered in the next issue. If so, pop me a message and I can pass it on.

Until next time…
